Lita Martin Reid Age 87 passed away March 4, 2018, in Sacramento from Parkinson’s Disease.
Lita was born in 1930 in Michigan to parents Bert and Helen Chatlin. She spent her first 9 years in Detroit then moved to Los Angeles where she was lovingly adopted by her mom’s new husband, Al Martin. After a childhood sprinkled with musicians, artists and movies, Lita met Bob Reid at Lake Arrowhead. Lita helped Bob finish college by teaching piano lessons so he could be a student. The next stop was El Dorado Hills. Lita taught piano again and returned to college herself in Sacramento. She began a second career in journalism with the Folsom Telegraph. Next, Lita and Bob settled in the China Lake/Ridgecrest area for 26 years. Lita worked for the Daily Independent as writer and editor for 16 years. She studied law with Judge Chuck Porter at the Ridgecrest School of Law, passed the bar at age 68 then began her third career. After Bob died, Lita moved to Visalia where she set up her legal practice. She took part in Visalia’s Democratic, legal and civic activities for 18 years. Lita spent the last two years at Sunrise of Sacramento.
Survivors: Children Charles (Darleen) Reid of Wentzville, MO; Richard Reid of Scottsdale, AZ; Maralou (Patrick) Higgins of Exeter; Deborah (Terry) Adair of Sacramento. Grandchildren Jason and Justin Reid, Lita, Rikki, Bobby and Zachary Reid, Ruth Higgins Nye, Rachel Higgins Ingram, Brian, Kelsey and Samantha Adair.
Great-grandchildren Sara and Emma Martin of Visalia, Olivia, Audrey, Ashlyn, Iain and Lorelai Reid of MO. Brother Charles Chatlynne, MD, and many cousins around the country.
Predeceased By: Husband Robert (Bob) Reid, and parents.
Memorial Service: Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery, Culver City, Sunday, March 18, 11:00 a.m.
