We are saddened to announce that longtime KI member Estelle Alper passed away Wednesday, June 11 at the age of 97. She has been a member of KI since 1962.
Born in New York City, Estelle married David Alper in 1950. In 1962, they moved from New Jersey to Pacific Palisades, where Estelle remained until 2024. Estelle and David shared 58 years together until his passing in 2008.
A dedicated member of the KI community, Estelle celebrated her Bat Mitzvah here and served in many roles over the years- as a member of the Board of Directors for the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, a member of the KI Choir and Sisterhood, and on the committee that selected Cantor Chayim Frenkel more than 40 years ago.
After raising five children, Estelle worked as a bookkeeper at Knolls Pharmacy and later with tax preparer Philip Hollingsworth. She had a lifelong love of classical music and opera, and her travels took her across Europe, China, Egypt, and Israel.
Estelle is survived by her five children and their spouses—Steve (Cathy), Joan (Manolo), Liz (Scott), Andy (Daryn), and Rob (Terri); her grandchildren—Sam, Sara, Mischa, Madeleine, Megan, and Aidan; and her great-grandchildren—Adam, Ben, Hailey, Waylon and Lainey.
May Estelle's light continue to shine brightly as an inspiration to all who knew her and may her memory be a blessing to the entire community.
