Edward Louis Lux (96), of Shaker Heights and Pacific Palisades, CA, passed away peacefully with family close by, on Thursday, June 12th in Santa Monica, CA.
Ed was born in Cleveland on June 2, 1929 to Louis and Doris (nee Littman) Lux, both of Shaker. In the summer of 1954, Ed met Marjorie Baylson and after a few months of long-distance courtship, the two were married in Philadelphia. They were together for nearly 60 years and are survived by sons Ted, of Playa Del Rey, CA; Tom, of Portland, OR; and daughter Carolyn of Los Angeles, plus three grandchildren -- Matthew, Elisabeth and Levi. Following Marjorie’s passing, Ed developed a 10-year companionship with Barbara Bing, of Marina Del Rey, CA, formerly of Beachwood.
Ed lived in Shaker Heights most of his life and loved the community and his many friends. He and Marjorie were long-time members of Oakwood Country Club, and they spent summers in Cleveland catching up with friends, biking to Chagrin Falls; and enjoying going to theater and museums. Following Marjorie’s passing, Barbara joined Ed in Cleveland.
Ed started college at Oberlin College, but quickly headed west to UCLA, graduating in 1951, as a Phi Beta Kappa. He was a proud member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity (and later a significant donor). After graduating, he moved back to Shaker Heights, where he became successful in the medical equipment leasing business.
Ed was a force of nature and approached life with boundless energy and a “can do” attitude. His passions ran deep. He was an accomplished photographer, a lover of bridge and tennis (singles and doubles), and an avid cyclist – having ridden well over 50,000 miles and pedaled into his mid-80’s. Ed and Marge traveled the world extensively and later he continued his travels with Barbara. He loved Aruba’s beaches and the friendly people of Australia. He enjoyed the hilltop towns of Italy and the wonders of Yosemite.
Ed is remembered by all for his intelligence, wit, his heartfelt generosity and wry sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation, University Hospital of Cleveland or the Jewish Federation of Cleveland in honor of Ed’s life. Celebrations of Life are being planned for Pacific Palisades in late Summer and Cleveland in Fall.
