Julius (Jay, Juicy, Juice, Dad, Pop, Daddy, Papa, Papa-Juicy) Lucas. March 30,1929 – May 16, 2020
Son of Rose and Abe Lucas and brother of Wilbur, Jay was born in Chicago and eventually, moved his family to California in 1962. Skipping over many ventures, Jay ultimately, became a clothing designer in the 1970s, bringing the first men’s leisure suit to light while manufacturing his men’s clothing line, in Japan, South Korea, and Guam. After Accomplishing all that he wanted to do in the fashion industry, Jay retired, but got bored within a couple of years. A risk-taker and a man who wasn’t ready to rest, Jay purchased and brought the Popeye Chicken Franchise from Louisiana to Southern California, and enjoyed being in the restaurant business, for a few, short, years. He built four of the twelve, stores in the strip centers that he bought for that purpose, and planned to build out the rest. Realizing once again, that he didn’t want to work so hard anymore, he sold out and ventured into real estate. He retired for a second time, young and spry enough to enjoy his wife, family, and his very happy, years on his boat/s, with all of his wonderful, friends at the Del Rey Yacht Club. Jay, a ninety-one-year-old, charitable, loving, man with the sharpest and most spirited mind, never had a harsh word for anyone and was loved by all that knew him. He was and always will be, Our Captain. Jay is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Lorraine (for over, seventy years), his son, Jan, daughters, Caryn and Geri & son in law, Sandy, his three granddaughters and their husbands, Niki & John, Stephanie & Dan, Danielle & Brian. Jay also enjoyed, with all of his heart, his great-grandchildren in order, Chloe, Lilly, Lucas, Emma, (Ava, Dylan & Levi – “the triplets”) & Ellie.
The world lost a beautiful soul and Heaven gained the sweetest, angel. RIP Juice/Daddy/Papa. We love you so much! Thank you for teaching us right from wrong and how to laugh! You will be in our hearts forever.
Until we meet again…
