Dr. Sherwin E. Levy passed on the evening of July 31, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann and his daughters Nancy, Robin, and Linda as well as his step daughter and son-in-law Jessica and Peter Riffel. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Turner. Dr. Levy was born on May 1, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Leon and Ollie Levy. He graduated from Von Steuben High School in Chicago and from the Illinois College of Podiatry with a degree in podiatric medicine. He worked at the VA hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. In 1955, he moved to Los Angeles, California and continued his work with the VA as the Chief of Podiatry, while also managing his private medical practice in Westwood. In the 1970’s he lectured extensively around the country and became the first Director of Podiatric Service in the Department of Veteran Affairs in Washington D.C.
Sherwin Levy lived life to the absolute fullest. He was always up for any adventure, activity, or challenge. He loved to dance and would go see live music anytime, anywhere. He was an amazing athlete having served as a lifeguard on Lake Michigan, performing stunt scuba diving in the 1950’s, enjoying skiing, swimming, biking, dancing, working out at Gold’s Gym, competing in the over 55 Olympic Games, and passing the LAPD physical agility test at 60. He continued to work out, and walk daily as long as he was able. He loved life and was truly a friend to all. Sherwin was extremely social and made friends easily. He enjoyed talking to everyone he met and treated all with universal kindness and respect. A funeral is scheduled for 1 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Hillside Memorial Park with a reception to follow at Napa Valley Grille in Westwood. Dr. Levy’s brother in law, Howard Turner, will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sherwin’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The National Kidney Foundation.
