 Funeral Service Assistant

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is currently seeking a Funeral Service Assistant to join their team in Los Angeles, California.

The Funeral Service Assistant is an entry-level position that works directly under the supervision of Hillside’s service directing team. This role supports the team in preparing and assisting with funeral services from set-up to completion. The Funeral Service Assistant will work closely with experienced staff to ensure services run smoothly, offering respectful and professional assistance to families and guests. This position requires strong attention to detail, the willingness to follow instructions, and the ability to maintain professional standards at all times. Light housekeeping and occasional administrative tasks are also part of the role. The ideal candidate should demonstrate compassion, be willing to learn, and work well under direct supervision in a fast-paced environment.

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $22.00-$24.00/hour.

Key Responsibilities

Funeral Service Support

  • Assists the Service Directing team with setting up and facilitating funeral and memorial services under close supervision.
  • Helps prepare various service components, including flowers, sanctuaries, gravesites, and casket placement, ensuring all aspects meet the team’s instructions and expectations.
  • Assists with service-related requests such as live-streaming and coordinating music and video under the guidance of the Service Directing team.
  • Follows up with the team to ensure all service details are properly executed.

Customer Service

  • Provides respectful and compassionate assistance to families under the guidance of the service team.
  • Maintains professionalism when interacting with families, guests, and clergy as directed by supervisors.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively as part of the service support team.

Maintaining Professional Standards

  • Arrive on time for all scheduled shifts and follows dress code requirements.
  • Adheres to established procedures and standards for handling company property and family items with care.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assists with answering phones and providing basic concierge services as needed.
  • Helps maintain service-related inventories and ensures the service area is clean and presentable by performing light housekeeping tasks.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

Professional Skills:

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to follow instructions closely.
  • Ability to work effectively under direct supervision.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No prior experience necessary; on-the-job training will be provided.

Advance Planning Assistant

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is currently seeking an Advance Planning Assistant to provide administrative support to the Advance Planning department. The Advance Planning department works with individuals and families who want to make end of life arrangements in advance, in addition to working with families at time of need. This department is passionate about the service they provide to our Hillside families and is looking for someone who is equally passionate about providing stellar administrative support to the team.

The rate of pay for this role is $25.00 per hour. The rate of pay will increase to $28.00 per hour when fully trained and consistently meeting all expectations of the position.

Responsibilities for this superstar include but are not limited to the following:
– Monitor and facilitate the flower order process from the Hillside website.
– Prepare meeting minutes.
– Maintain office supplies and ensure arrangement offices are fully stocked with the necessary forms and office supplies.
– Prepare and generate survey letters.
– Batching of interment orders, marker invoices and contracts.
– Update map books for the park.
– Maintain the client mailing list by adding and deleting clients when required.
– Process check requests and letters related to referrals in Hillside’s Pre-Need Partnership Program.
– Schedule unveilings.
– Coordinate department anniversary and birthday celebrations.
– Provide first-line technical support to the department.
– General office duties such as mailings, photocopying and phones.
– Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have a magnificent level of attention to detail, strong computer skills with Outlook, Word, and Excel, be reliable and dependable and have a friendly style that others will want to work with. This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday. The hours for this role are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Due to the essential functions of this position, it cannot be performed remotely.
