Beverly Kristal Mintz
Mar 30, 1925 to Jan 24, 2018
Beloved mother of Ken Mintz and mother-in-law of Linda Mintz, grandmother of Becky Mintz, Joanna Covington and Lorena Gonzalez, and devoted great-grandmother of Logan and Callie Mintz-Hernandez. Daughter of Nathan and Sophie Kristal and beloved sister of Jerry Kristal, Vicki Gahlbeck and Sandra Kristal. Beverly survived her sister Elaine Kristal, husband Francis (“Fritz”) Mintz, daughter Sharon Gonzalez, grandson Steven Mintz and brothers-in-law Marty and Stanley Mintz. Born Beverly Bernice Kristal in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, she went to junior high and high schools in Madison, and she attended classes at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She was introduced to husband Francis by brother-in-law Walter Mintz. Francis and Beverly married in 1945, moved back and forth between California and Wisconsin several times, and finally settled in Los Angeles County, living in Northridge and the City of Los Angeles. Beverly enjoyed an early career as an editor and a writer of a human interest column for the Eastside News in Madison. When Francis and Beverly moved to California for the last time, Beverly focused her attention on raising their two children, Sharon and Ken. Eventually, Beverly earned teaching and reading specialist credentials, and she taught in Los Angeles elementary schools. Beverly enjoyed many friends in the Los Angeles area, and she was befriended by everyone who worked for her, who described her as a sweet person. Beverly succumbed suddenly to complications from heart disease. Beverly lived a full and happy 92 (nearly 93) years, and she “did it m-y way” (cue Frank Sinatra).
