William “Bill” Fein, M.D. November 27. 1933-April 14, 2017 After a 50 year career devoted to healing others, William Fein, M.D. was, in the end, unable to heal himself as his body succumbed to the ravages of renal failure. He “hung up his stethoscope” on April 14, 2017. Born to Beatrice and Samuel Fein in New York City, he moved to California for graduate school, earning his M.D. as a member of U.C. Irvine Medical School’s very first graduating class. After his residency, Dr. Fein launched his career with an unparalleled sense of duty to Ophthalmology. This passion was rewarded (though some might say punished) when Dr. Fein became Chief of Ophthalmology at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Fein’s dedication went far beyond merely caring for his patients; he demonstrated his commitment to Ophalmology by conducting groundbreaking research on tear ducts, as well as by teaching generations of medical students at County+USC Medical Center. In fact, odds are that Dr. Fein or one of his legions of students had something to do with your ability to read this very notice right now. Dr. Fein is survived by his sister Joyce (Ed) Newman. Dr. Fein is also survived by his children Stephanie (Frank) Tavelman, Adam Fein (Rebecca Simon), and Greg (Melody) Fein, his grandsons Samuel & Alex Tavelman, and his granddaughter Audrey Garcia. He truly lived long and prospered. Services will be held at 11am on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Hillside Memorial Park & Mortuary, 6001 W. Centinela Avenue, L.A. 90045. (310) 641-0707
