Devoted Father of Michael (Sharon) Gertz, Jami (Tony) Ressler and Scott (Michelle) Gertz.

Proud and loving Zayde to Oliver Ressler, Nick (Gabby Rose) Ressler, Theo Ressler, Andrew Gertz, Ben Gertz, Sarah Gertz, Jordan Gertz and Spencer Gertz. Proudest Great-Grandfather of Lyla Rose Ressler.

Walter's family was the center of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Walter moved with his family to Chicago, Illinois, at the age of four. He built a wonderful life there with his beloved wife, Sharyn, and their family before relocating to Los Angeles in January 1996.

Walter was a successful general contractor for 25 years and proudly owned The Improv in Chicago for a decade. He loved creating a welcoming space for comedians and performers, and his larger-than-life personality, warmth, and generosity made everyone feel at home.

After moving to Los Angeles, Walter found his true calling as a Holocaust educator at the Museum of Tolerance, where he devoted 20 years to teaching the lessons of history, compassion, and acceptance. He was deeply committed to sharing the importance of tolerance and ensuring that future generations understood the consequences of hatred and prejudice. Guided by his unwavering Jewish values, Walter lived and taught the principle of Tikkun Olam—repairing the world through kindness, education, and service to others.

Walter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a loyal, cherished friend to many. His compassion, wisdom, humor, and generous spirit touched countless lives. His memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew, loved, and treasured him.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1st at 12:00pm
