Stella Feuer--artist, musician, museum docent, great grandmother, grandmother, mother and deep believer in social justice—passed away on December 10, 2025 at age 94.

Born to Russian immigrant parents, Stella spoke Russian, Yiddish, Spanish “and a little English” as a child in the melting pot of Boyle Heights. She never forgot the internment of her Japanese American friends during World War II, later teaching her children about the importance of standing up for social justice. A prodigy as a young pianist, she studied under Virtuoso Andre Previn.

Stella attended UCLA, where she met her husband of 64 years, Melvin, who predeceased her. The couple moved to San Bernardino, where Stella helped found the local chapter of the League of Women Voters, volunteered at the Family Service agency and taught religious school. She and Mel raised three sons, Mike, Bob and Steven. When the boys got older, Stella attended California State University, San Bernardino, where she excelled and completed her degree in fine arts. She became an administrator at the University.

After Mel retired as a public-school principal, Stella and Mel moved to Los Angeles, where Mike and his wife, Gail, were starting a family. Stella became a paralegal and cultivated her exceptional talent as an artist. She served as a docent to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where she led students and families from underserved neighborhoods on tours that connected the museum’s collection to the diverse cultures of Los Angeles.

Stella loved art, music and travel. Her favorite destination was Paris. But her foremost love was her family. In addition to being a spouse and parent, she delighted in being a grandparent to Mike and Gail’s children, Aaron and Danielle.

Stella’s son, Steven, died in 2016. She is survived by sons Mike (wife, Gail Ruderman Feuer), Robert (husband, Larry Tyndall), son-in-law Martin Venezky (Steven’s widower), grandchildren Aaron (wife, Julia Feuer) and Danielle (husband, Matt Haimowitz), great-granddaughter Mia, and brother Larry Kalish. Funeral services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park on Sunday, December 14. Donations can be sent to Jewish Family Service LA.
