Stanley B. Solomon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, aerospace engineer, and inventor, passed away on August 20, 2025 at the age of 89.
Born September 21, 1935, in New York City, Stan was the son of Harry and Lillian Solomon and the grandson of immigrants from Eastern Europe. He frequently spoke with gratitude about being the beneficiary of generations who worked tirelessly to create a better life for their children.
Stan was most known by all to be a thoughtful and generous man who always had a smile on his face and kind words to say. Perhaps it was his years in the Boy Scouts that set him on this path. He ultimately became an Eagle Scout and attended the World Jamboree in Europe.
In 1966, Stan married the love of his life, Judith. Together, they built a home filled with devotion, laughter, and integrity. Of his family, he once wrote: “I loved being a father, and I loved family life. It gave me a deep sense of belonging and purpose.” He and Judith raised their children, Steve and Cara, with values of compassion, curiosity, and perseverance.
Stan’s childhood love of building and problem-solving led him to study engineering at the Cooper Union after graduating at the top of his class at Stuyvesant High School. His career began in aerospace, where he played a key role in the Apollo 11 mission as part of the Rocketdyne team that developed the F-1 engines powering the Saturn V rocket. Reflecting on that historic achievement, he wrote: “After Apollo 11, I believed that anything was possible. It was just a matter of having the desire, and the will, to do it.”
Beyond aerospace, Stan earned an MBA at USC and went on to leadership roles in business, eventually founding Worthwhile Products which led to the granting of multiple patents. During his later years, he managed the family real estate business. Through it all, he lived by an unwavering moral compass: “Just as I need oxygen to breathe and clean water to drink, I need to be in alignment with my own moral compass.”
Stan is predeceased by his wife, Judith, and is survived by his children, Steven (Kristine) and Cara (Dan), sister Trudy, and grandchildren Madden, Drew, Henry, Hudson, Wesley, and Evan.
He will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his warmth, generosity, and his belief that even the impossible could be achieved.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 25th at 10AM at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Engineers Without Borders.
