My Uncle Jack was a very special man. He always went out of his way to make others feel good. His patience and generosity were ever present. I have wonderful memories of his unique sense of humor and delight in whatever was going on, as I was growing up. I will always be grateful for the way he mentored my son, taking him to his office and showing him around. Jack's warmth and charm "made you feel good". Sometime within the past 8 yrs or so, when Jack was becoming weaker and weaker, I brought a friend to their house because we were nearby so we dropped by unannounced. Jack and Geri could not have been more welcoming if we'd given them a month's notice. Jack kindly took the time to get to know my friend. He made her instantly comfortable, as both Jack and Geri are so able to do! After we left she said "He is so charming!" I hadn't thought about it before since I'd known him all my life, but she was so right. What a kind and lovely man. My dad, Donald Kaplan, has told me that when he and Jack sold papers on a corner of Wilshire Blvd., cute little Jack made all the sales! I like to picture the two of them on that corner holding their newspapers-my dad, the loving protector of little Jack, earnestly selling his papers, facing the world together. Jack, I'm glad you've had a good life, but I'm sad you're gone.
