Penny Lona Grosz

Penny Lona Grosz, 71, of Los Angeles, California, peacefully passed away on September 19, 2026, embraced by the love of her family and friends.

Born on June 19, 1955, to Stephen Grosz and Sylvia Schwartzstein, Penny was born and raised in Culver City, California. She later raised her three children in Tarzana and Calabasas before eventually returning to Los Angeles after meeting her beloved husband, Gene Korney.

Penny had a fulfilling career as an accomplished real estate litigation partner at Reznik & Reznik before retiring to spend more time with her children and family. She took great pride in being involved in her children’s lives and education and devoted countless hours to volunteering at their schools and with local organizations.

Penny had an extraordinary ability to make friends almost anywhere she went and loved bringing people together. She cared deeply about creating a sense of community and became known for hosting large Jewish holiday celebrations, often welcoming more than 100 people into her home. Her warmth and generosity extended far beyond her own family. Over the years, she became a second mother to many of her children’s friends, welcoming them into her home and her life as if they were her own.

Her Jewish heritage and family history held special meaning for Penny. As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor whose family was largely lost in the concentration camps, she developed a deep interest in Holocaust history and genealogy. She enjoyed reading, learning, and researching her family’s history, preserving connections to the generations who came before her and honoring the memory of those who were lost.

Penny embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She was an avid music lover who enjoyed going to the theater, traveling, and especially taking cruises. She loved playing Scrabble, Rummikub, May I, and Canasta, as well as working on jigsaw puzzles. Whether she was enjoying a game with friends, exploring a new destination, or striking up a conversation with someone she had just met, Penny found joy in connecting with others.

Above all, Penny treasured her family. Affectionately known as “Grandma Penny” to her four grandchildren, she cherished the time she spent with them and took tremendous joy in watching them grow. Her children and grandchildren were at the center of her life, and the love she gave them will continue through the family she leaves behind.

Penny is survived by her loving husband, Gene Korney; her three children, Amanda Roth (Brandon Roth), Scott Salomon (Christina Moncrief), and Allie Salomon (Leah Ford); and her four beloved grandchildren, Damian Roth, Sydney Roth, Ryleigh Roth, and Nora Salomon.

Penny will be remembered for her fierce love of family, her determination, her warmth, and her remarkable gift for bringing people together. She built community wherever she went, creating friendships that became family and traditions that will continue long after her. The enormous circle of people who loved her is a testament to the life she created and the impact she had on those fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Penny’s memory to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles or the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC).
