Mel was an only child to Lillian and Abraham Ginsburg, who had lost a daughter in infancy. Mel was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After High School, he joined the United States Navy towards the end of World War 2. He was stationed throughout the continental United States, finally ending up in San Diego, California. He quickly realized he liked the winters in Southern California much better than in Massachusetts.
When he was discharged from the Navy, he went back to Cambridge and after a short stay, talked his parents to move with him to Los Angeles. They made the drive across country on the famous Route 66.
After establishing he and his parents in Los Angeles in the late 1940s, he began his successful business in Venice, he met his wife-to-be, Jeanette, at a New Year’s Eve party as a blind date on December 31, 1949. He and Jeanette were married in June 1950 and were together until her passing in 1997.
Mel and Jeanette raised a daughter, Shirley, and son, Michael.
Mel was proud to work hard, being a great Husband to Jeanette, and a great Father to Shirley and Michael. And being honest and fair to all who crossed his path, whether or not in a business environment.
After a nearly three month long stay in either a hospital or skilled nursing facility, he came home where he passed after nearly 3 weeks. He passed in comfort, with his son Michael at his side. Surely, everybody who knows Mel, knows he is at complete peace now that he is with Jeanette again.
He will be sorely missed.
