Masza Rosenroth released her tenacious grip on life this week. She was 103ish. She was a survivor.
She used every ounce of her strength and determination first to survive, and then to build a better life.
She came to this unfamiliar country where they spoke a language she did not know and with her husband, Jacob, started a family and crafted a path to their success. She was profoundly proud of her achievements and the spirit and strengths that it took to thrive.
She was proud to be Jewish and of the values she learned that helped her through the darkest times. She was a passionate witness who shared her survival story and was determined that it not be forgotten.
She will be remembered most deeply by her daughters Sharon (Brian) Hersch and Michele (Jerry) Mendelsohn and their families. Grandchildren Matthew Hersch, Rachel (Oliver) Olanoff, Amy (Jonathan) Aires, and Molly Mendelsohn. Great grandchildren Norah, Graham, Hazel, Jack, and Lev. They were her victory. They were her proudest legacy.
She may have left our presence, but Masza Rosenroth survives.
