Marvin “Marv” Jae Fineroff, age 81, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at home, holding the hand of his devoted wife, Geri. Born on May 27, 1943, in Atlanta, Georgia, Marv lived a life filled with purpose, laughter, and love—a life that fulfilled and exceeded his dreams.
In his final hour of high school, Marv jotted down his life’s aspirations. Over the decades, he not only achieved them but surpassed them, leaving behind a legacy of happiness and connection that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. Marv earned his degree from Cal State Northridge, built a 25-year career at GTE in public relations, and, most importantly, devoted himself wholeheartedly to his family and friends. With Geri by his side, he lived the life he envisioned—one enriched by shared adventures and boundless love.
Baseball was more than just a pastime for Marv—it was his passion. Whether attending games in 36 cities or stepping up to the plate himself, Marv found joy in every crack of the bat, bite of a Dodger Dog, and cheer from the stands. His love for the sport extended to senior softball, where he played, managed, and led with boundless enthusiasm, eventually serving as commissioner of Thousand Oaks Senior Softball (TOSS). The friendships he forged on the field were as enduring as his love for the game itself.
Beyond his affection for baseball, Marv delighted in attending concerts and theater performances, traveling, and playing cards and board games. He also enjoyed listening to Jim Cramer and engaging in the stock market, savoring his daily Starbucks coffee, cruising around town on his Vespa, and relishing meals with plenty of BBQ sauce. Marv’s generosity extended to his community through his volunteer work as a Big Brother, fostering a child, and serving as Commissioner of the Goebel Senior Center, where he made a lasting positive impact on all those he encountered.
Marv’s soulmate, Geri, whom he deeply respected and showered with red roses and good-night kisses, was the love of his life. Their shared experiences were countless, but among the most rewarding and cherished were the joys of raising their three daughters, welcoming their son-in-laws, and embracing the laughter and love of their grandchildren.
Marv’s daughters adored the man who asked them thoughtful questions and truly listened, who taught them to advocate for themselves, and who encouraged laughter and silliness at every turn. He modeled hard work and supported their dreams, while also showing them how to appreciate life’s small joys—whether it was chasing an ice cream truck, riding a bike, rocking out at a Madonna concert, mastering the game of “Sorry,” or welcoming a pet bunny into the family. His love was their anchor, always there to steady them through moments of triumph and times of need.
Marv, your legacy of love, curiosity, and laughter will forever light our way. May we all strive to follow your example and live as fully and joyfully as you did. Rest easy, knowing you were deeply loved and will forever be in our hearts.
Marv is survived by his wife, Geri; daughters, Romy (Michael) Taormina, Denise (Spenser) Lucarelli, and Becky (Josh) Evans; grandchildren, Coleman and Nathan Taormina, Devin Lucarelli, and Andrew and Madison Evans; in-law Ruth Hirsh; and former wife, Anita Jaeger. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Pauline Fineroff; sister, Yvonne Cline; and in-laws Jack Hirsh and Manny and Ida Beber.
