Mark L. Lamken, January 6, 1933 – January 2, 2020
Passed away at age 87 surrounded by the family who adored and respected him.

He is survived by wife Norma H. Lamken, his children Jeffrey Lamken (Lourdes) and Kathi Rubin Hicks (Charles Hicks) and beloved grandchildren Lauren and Lindsay Lamken and Mitchell and Sara Rubin.

Mark was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and attended the University of California at Berkeley on an ROTC scholarship. Upon graduation, Mark was a Lieutenant and Communications Officer aboard the destroyer escort, USS Taylor, based out of Pearl Harbor, HI.

Following his service, Mark entered graduated from UCLA School of Law, Order of the Coif. One of his law-school classmates introduced him to the love of his life, Norma Hillinger. They were married on August 24, 1958 and settled in Encino, where they raised their two children (Katherine and Jeffrey) as well as numerous pets of furred, finned, scaled and feathered varieties. Mark became a prominent lawyer in Los Angeles, and a partner at the law firm Richards, Watson & Gershon.

A talented real estate and municipal law attorney, Mark was a lifelong member of the Sierra Club who volunteered countless hours to various environmental causes. He and his wife introduced their children to the beauty of nature through numerous backpacking and “car camping” trips throughout the Western United States. The Kona Village Resort on the Kona Coast of Hawaii was a beloved place for the family to relax and connect.

After retirement, Mark served of counsel to RWD&G and devoted nearly two decades of pro bono real estate expertise to the Mountains Restoration Trust in Calabasas, CA. Working alongside his beloved wife Norma, he served as treasurer and a board member of the Friends of the Encino Tarzana Public Library.

Mark is remembered by those who knew him for his intelligence, ethics, punny sense of humor and full body belly laughter.

Services will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 W Centinela Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Pet Adoption Fund in Canoga Park, CA, City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, CA the Mountains Restoration Trust in Calabasas, CA or to your charity of choice.
