Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Louise passed away peacefully in her West Los Angeles home Wednesday morning at the age of 91. Louise was born in Seattle to Nathan and Rose LeFohn, the youngest of three sisters. She attended art school in New York before settling in Los Angeles in 1948 and marrying her true love, Robert J. Levyn, who died in 1991.
Louise was known for her abundant compassion and giving heart. Her creative and kind mind saw the best in the world and left an impression of unconditional love on everyone she met. Her love of nature is evident in the succulent garden she and Bob created in the backyard of their home.
A writer and poet, Louise wrote her first poem at the age of 15: “Faith helps me weave, and soon I am the maker of a dream. Unafraid, I journey on want of the extreme. I search my dream so eagerly, its contents I must know, so I may help this dream to breathe, to flourish and to grow. I see my dream, the model of a wondrous piece of thought, in which the fiery warmth of idle love is caught. My fancy came, familiarized itself and vanished far, but I know it’s nestled deep and safe where my other fancies are.” -L.L.L. 1940
Louise is survived by her sister, Evelyn Greenberg, daughters Kathy Levyn and Nancy Levyn Chaconas, son-in-law Jim Chaconas, and grandchildren Jonathan and Robyn. She is especially thankful for her wonderful caregivers over the past four years.
Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park at 11:00 am on Monday, February 20th. Donations can be made in her honor to The Los Angeles Jewish Home (7150 Tampa Ave., Reseda, CA 91335) or Opica Adult Day Care Center (11759 Missouri Ave., LA, CA 90025).
