Laurel Tuby Davidson (Feb. 1, 1940 - August 14, 2026), beloved wife, mother and grandmother is survived by daughters Melissa and Joyce, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandsons Zachary, Aaron, and Theo, and grand-dog, Stanley.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Laurel was the only child of Dr. Martin and Beatrice Tuby. She grew up surrounded by family and shared a particularly special bond with her cousins, Liz and Judy. The three were inseparable growing up, and that deep connection remained a treasured part of Laurel’s life for years to come.

From an early age, Laurel knew she wanted to be a teacher and pursued a career in education. She was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan. She also met her lifelong friend, Lois Lucas, when they were assigned to be Freshman roommates.

Laurel began her teaching career shortly after graduation and was an elementary school teacher with LA Unified School District for 39 years. She prided herself on finding ways for all kids to shine, like the annual talent show she hosted for many years or creating the “Trash into Classroom Treasures” project.

In 1961, Laurel and her mother Beatrice moved to Brentwood and shared an apartment. Across the hall lived a young man named Shelton G. Davidson. When the two met, it was love at first sight, and on their first date, she opened a fortune cookie with the fortune, “yours will be a lasting romance.” Those words proved to be prophetic, and one year later, they married.

Laurel and Shelly were married for 35 years, before his passing in 2000. Faced with starting a new chapter, Laurel became deeply involved in both the Brentwood community, where she lived for over 60 years, and Leo Baeck Temple.

Laurel’s deep connection to the Brentwood community began when her daughters were in elementary school at Brentwood Elementary/Brentwood Science Magnet School. She was actively involved with both the PTA and Advisory Council during their formative years. Her commitment to the community continued long after her daughter’s school years and into retirement, serving on the board of Brentwood Green and as a member of the South Brentwood Residence Association.

At Leo Baeck, Laurel was honored to serve on numerous committees. She helped found LBT Women where she served as its co-chair for many years. She was also a member of the LBT Board of Trustees and most recently served as the Treasurer for the Community of Engagement. She found great joy in being part of the LBT community and formed many loving bonds and friendships that enriched her life in countless ways.

Another passion of Laurel’s was gardening, especially succulents of all varieties, which filled her home and garden. She also loved to share her joy of gardening with family and friends.

There was nothing Laurel loved more than bringing people together and inspiring those around her. Through her involvement in her many groups throughout her life, she built a wide circle of cherished friends. Laurel was a dynamic force in this world whose energy and generous spirit touched everyone. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 30 at 10am at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City.
