Judith Lynn Shechter Trostler passed away the morning of November 22, 2018 after an almost year-long battle with Ovarian Cancer. Judy fought courageously against the disease considering all treatment options and choosing from them thoughtfully. Judy had a true “heart of gold” and was one of the kindest individuals anyone could ever meet. She was an inspiration to all she met. Judy was a life long resident of Los Angeles born January 15, 1942 at Cedars of Lebanon to Irving and Ruth Carlot Shechter. Judy grew up in Beverlywood and was a proud alumni (Tontakonian) of Hamilton High School. While at Hamilton, Judy participated in Drill Team among other school activities. Judy graduated Hamilton High School in 1959 and went on to attend UCLA. Judy was an Education major at UCLA, graduating in 1964. Her career in education lasted for almost 30 years. She taught for LAUSD and for the Torrance School District. Judy taught mostly elementary (third grade), some high school, and continuing education students. Judy’s students knew she would be there to listen and help them in every way possible. Her encouragement and support created a nurturing and productive educational environment. All one had to do was attend one of her “Back to School” nights to observe students and parents cheering her on. For a period of time Judy took a break from education and accepted the position of Office Manager with the Los Angeles office of The Ad Council. She very much enjoyed working with radio and television stations promoting public service media. Judy had one daughter, Alison and she took great pride in being the best parent she could be. Alison was always Judy’s first priority and she provided a secure loving home for Alison and herself. Judy is survived by her daughter, Alison Howard, son-in-law Lyman Howard, her loving companion of almost 30 years Robert Frumkin and her dog Lily. Services will be private and the family requests donations be made to Torrance Memorial Home Health and Hospice.
