Dennis Ronald Morehead, 73, a lifelong Los Angeles county resident, peacefully passed away after heart surgery complications on Sunday February 9 at St. John’s hospital with his family by his side. He was born on Valentine’s Day February 14, 1946 in Los Angeles to William and Adeline Morehead. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1964 and from Cal State Northridge in 1970. On July 26, 1970, he married his lifelong love Patricia and this year is their 50th wedding anniversary.
Dennis was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and businessman who valued community and family. As a youth, he was brought up by his grandmother and worked to help pay the bills. After a time in the National Guard, he was the first in his family to graduate from college, where he met the love of his life. His in-laws, Fred and Ann Horlick, loved him like a true son and mentored him in the family construction business. As a partner in the business, Dennis helped build and manage the company, which now employs 30 people.
Dennis loved his two sons and eight grandchildren and would do anything to help his family, friends and community. As a former president of the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club and devoted member for over 25 years, he spent hundreds of hours volunteering to help others. Dennis was a very special person who lived as an example to all who knew him. He was caring, loving, and selfless, sincere and humble, yet confident and assertive. His friends and family agree that it was a blessing to be close to Dennis and that we are better people because of him.
Dennis achieved his life dreams of a successful career and enjoying a prosperous life including golf, food and family. Dennis loved to spend time with his wife and two sons, daughter-in-laws and eight grandkids at the beach and on vacations to Hawaii. He is an example of the American dream: an underprivileged boy who worked hard his entire life to successfully provide for his family. He really enjoyed life. We are so saddened by his unexpected passing but expect his life legacy to continue.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, William Morehead, and his mother, Adeline, his father (in-law) Fred Horlick and mother (in-law) Ann. Dennis is survived by Patricia, his loving wife of 50 years, sons Ben and Ryan, daughter-in-laws Ananda and April, and grandchildren Noah (22), Owen (21), Gavin (21 ), Christopher (19), Jayden (18), Patrick (17), Alyssa (16), and Garrett (14). He was loved by his family, close friends, Rotary colleagues and his Manhattan Beach community. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Sunday February 16 at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City.
