Henrietta was a thoroughly unique individual who loved to obliterate the stereotype of a baby boomer parent. Born in Detroit to parents Irving and Mary Cooper, Henrietta attended Northern High School and Wayne University. She later graduated from the Harvard-Radcliffe Program in Business Administration as her husband, the late Leon I. Mirell, attended Harvard Law School. While in Boston, Henrietta was a journalist who covered the Massachusetts State House for the Associated Press and the Boston Globe. After moving to Los Angeles where she lived the rest of her life, Henrietta worked for Samuel Goldwyn Jr., and the Bullocks department store chain, among others, while writing novels and screenplays on a wide array of subjects. For many years, she was an active leader in the local chapter of Workmen’s Circle and also served as President of the Carthay Circle Homeowners Association; she traveled widely and loved visiting Italy. Henrietta passed away peacefully in her sleep in the home she loved and where she had lived for over 60 years. She is survived by her sister Audrey Leider, her son Douglas, her daughter-in-law Laurie Levenson, and her three adored grandchildren — Solly, Havi and Dani. In honor of her memory, Henrietta’s family asks that charitable contributions be made to causes that are personally meaningful to those making the donations. Funeral services will be held at Hillside Memorial park at 3:00PM.
