Gita Lee Moskowitz passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023, surrounded by her devoted and loving family. Gita was born in Los Angeles on May 6, 1926, to Emil and Betty Rohrlich. Emil Rohrlich was the founder of the famous Gotham delicatessen and restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard. The Gotham was the first “fancy” deli in Los Angeles and was a central meeting place for many of the celebrities of the 20s 30s and 40s, which made for an exciting and eventful childhood. Gita graduated Fairfax high school and worked briefly at RKO Studios. Gita’s parents were founding members of Temple Israel of Hollywood where Gita met and married the love of her life, Herman Hal Moskowitz in 1947. Temple Israel was a central part of their lives. Gita served as President of the Sisterhood and (with Hal) was Co-President of the couple’s club. Gita liked to describe her 70-year marriage to Hal as “perfect”. Together they traveled the world with friends and family. Gita was a lifelong avid reader and loved spending time with her family. Together with Hal, she raised three children who were by her side to the end. Gita was pre-deceased by Hal and is survived by her three children Ronelle (Gerard), Susan, Emil (Sharon) and two grandchildren Brigitte and Jenna (Alex).
