Evelyn, known to most as “Evie,” was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, and most importantly, wife to the “love of her life,” Jerry.
Evie was born in Chicago, the second child of Edith and Sam Herman. She moved to Los Angeles with her family when she was young and settled in the Fairfax District, where she would remain until very recently. A graduate of Fairfax High School, she met Jerry in her early twenties, and they were married in 1960.
Evie and Jerry were always together, soulmates and best friends for their nearly sixty-five years of marriage. They loved taking trips together, Alaska and Hawaii, among other places. They enjoyed socializing with friends and nights out for dinner (especially their local favorite, Andre’s).
Evie worked for the Jewish Federation in Los Angeles for over forty years before retiring in 1997. During retirement, Evie continued to volunteer at local hospitals and schools. Evie was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading the daily newspaper cover to cover.
Evie is survived by Jerry; four great-nephews, Philip, Loren, Eli (Cindy), Alex; five great-great nieces and nephews, Drew, Riley, Noah, Nathan, and Annie; niece-in-law, Monica Shapiro, and nephew-in-law, Neil Reichline (Marilyn); and wonderful cousins.
She found the love of her life and held onto it fiercely, living a life filled with joy and devotion until her last breath. May her memory forever be a blessing.
