THE DUST IN DANNY'S DOMICILE Look closely at the dust between these tiles: sand from the coast of Ecuador, clay from Bogotá, a chip of rock from el Peru. Souvenirs of places seen with others and alone, memories carved with hematite on polyhedric stone. The shoes that left these traces here paused briefly in this place— just long enough to make those met, touched, and tended, wish they had tarried longer. But much remains to do: a river yet to navigate, another peak to climb. Such shoes are restless. One has need to touch the salt of oceans past that door. The other has a friend to meet on some Pacific shore. JDN, México, D.F., May 2, 1978

Dan - you were our first official friend in Austin and you helped to make our transition there such a memorable and easy one! We were lucky to have you in our lives, to share meals, stories of Latin America and our mutual love for Mexico and doggos. You were the quintessential inn keeper and your love for hospitality and making guests and friends alike feel welcomed was palpable. There is now a huge gap in Austin, and the world, where your heart beat strong, and for so many of us, for so many years. You are missed, and will be missed for decades to come, dear friend. Rest well, and hope you are now reunited with your pack that exited before you, all much too soon! All our love, Jen & Jose

Dan, You were the nicest, most kind man I have ever known. You were so full of love and I am gratefully blessed to have met you. Loosing you is extremely difficult, but I will always have you in my heart. I know you are now at peace. Forever love, Matt
