Constance Elaine Abell, a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and devoted philanthropist, passed away peacefully on her birthday, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy. Born in Los Angeles on January 6, 1935, Constance lived her life with purpose, enthusiasm, and an unshakable love for family, friends, and community.
A lifelong Angeleno, Constance’s compassion and commitment to helping others shaped much of her life’s work. She lent her time, energy, and heart to many charitable organizations, including The Blue Ribbon—the Music Center’s premier women’s support group—Stop Cancer, and City of Hope. Her leadership as a past president of Beverly Hills Hadassah reflected her deep belief in community service and in the power of women working together to make a difference. Constance was also a generous donor to both Jewish and Catholic charities, reflecting her inclusive spirit and her belief that kindness and generosity transcend all boundaries of faith.
Constance lived life with zest and elegance. She was a proud fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, rarely missing a game and always sharing her team spirit with family and friends. Her love for competition and connection extended to bridge, golf, and tennis, where she made lifelong friendships as a member of the Brentwood Country Club. Her athleticism began at Beverly Hills High School, where she was on the swim team, and continued during her years at UCLA as a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority—an experience that brought her enduring friendships and happy memories.
Curious and adventurous by nature, Constance traveled the world and visited every continent, with Africa holding a special place in her heart. Whether exploring distant lands or attending a family gathering, she found inspiration in new experiences and great joy in being surrounded by laughter and love.
Constance was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Robert Abell of A.N. Abell Auction Company and former attorney Herbert Ehrmann. At her core, she was deeply devoted to family. She is survived by her son, Dr. James Miller, and his wife, Cindi; daughter, Irene Clark, and her husband, David; stepson, Leslie Abell, and his wife, Nancy; and the memory of her late stepson, Barry Abell, and his late wife, Janine. She was an adoring grandmother to her 13 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren. Her wisdom, humor, and unconditional love were felt by all, and she embraced every part of her diverse family—including her Orthodox Jewish and LGBT members—with deep acceptance and pride.
Constance’s family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to her loyal caregivers for their many hours of care, attention, and kindness.
To those who knew her, Constance will be remembered for her gracious spirit, her warmth and curiosity, and her unwavering love of life. Her laughter, generosity, and open heart will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral service will be held at Hillside Memorial Park on January 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
