Dr. Cathie Ann Olsky (neé Adams), previously Cathie Ann Merki, passed away on October 2, 2023, at age 70, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Martin J. Olsky, who passed away earlier this year.

Cathie was born on May 22, 1953, to William Adams and Myrtle Biggers in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from Chaffey High School in 1971, she went on to study English and Education, receiving her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from the University of La Verne. Passionate about education, she began as a first-grade teacher, kickstarting a 30+ year career. She worked in the Ontario-Montclair, Bonita Unified, Alhambra Unified, South Pasadena Unified, San Gabriel Unified, and Santa Ana Unified School Districts, culminating as a Deputy Superintendent. In 2013, Cathie retired and spent her time traveling, camping, gardening, and continuing to educate aspiring administrators at National University. Her impact on students’ lives in Southern California for the past half a century is undeniable.

She is survived by her two children, Kiva and Adam, and step-children Matt, Greg, and Lindsey. And grandchildren Ian, Myra, and Nesta. She was a compassionate and strong wife, mother, and grandmother who cared deeply for her family.

Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, 6001 W Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045, on October 15 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or donations supporting your local school districts and educational institutions.
