November 25, 1965 - May 12, 2020
A giant packed into a 4 foot 10 inch frame –
A GIANT BRAIN AND A GIANT HEART.
Beth Susan “Susie” Abramowitz passed away on May 12, 2020 after a sudden illness. She was 54 years old.
Susie was born on November 25, 1965 in Washington, D.C. A 1983 graduate of the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, Susie excelled both academically and athletically, despite being born with impaired vision, just one of the many obstacles that she would overcome during her lifetime.
After high school, Susie attended The George Washington University where, as an honors student, she earned a BSEE in Electrical and Computer Engineering while also being Captain of the gymnastics team. After college, Susie attended the University of Southern California where she completed her MS in Biomedical Engineering/Imaging Technology. She then went on to become a Senior Principal Systems Engineer for Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems where she was served as a lead analyst developing equipment and technology that has literally saved thousands of lives.
Susie was one of the smartest and sweetest people we have ever known, and loved everything from art, to music and gardening, to name just a few. Despite the many unfair curveballs that life threw her way, including breast cancer which she beat, she approached every day with dignity and grace and an unwavering optimism that was the envy of us all.
Susie is survived by her parents, Rabbi A. Nathan and Dr. Barbara Abramowitz, her brothers David (Allegra) and Daniel (Wendi), her nephews Gadi, Rafi, Zack and Josh, her niece Marli, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins as well as an amazing group of loving and caring friends.
Since Susie loved and cared about so many and so much, donations in her memory may be sent to:
