On Wednesday, January 29, 2020, Bert Finmark, husband and father, grandfather and brother, passed away at the age of 94. After an active and fulfilling life, Bert, passed away comfortably at home in Palm Desert, California.
Bert was born on December 7, 1925 in Los Angeles, California to Harry and Minnie Finmark. The youngest of three (Sybil and Bernice), he grew up in Los Angeles, graduated from Fairfax High School and joined the U.S. Air Corps and trained as a pilot in 1944. After his military service, Bert graduated from Woodbury University. He started in the lighting business by owning Superior Wholesale Electric and after selling it, created Capri Lighting Manufacturing with his friends Sy and Al Gerber in 1974, which he ran until they sold it in 1984. On August 28, 2000 he was married for the third time to Dr. Wilma Awerbuch. They lived an active life of golfing, traveling the world and having fun together.
Bert had a passion and talent for playing golf and tennis, watching most sports on TV, especially football, and an uncanny card sense. He was also an avid turtle lover and his collection is renown. He was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Bert was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice, his son, Dean, and stepson, Philip. Bert is survived by his wife Wilma, his two sons, Gary and Brian, his daughter, Pamela, and his stepson, Mark, along with three grandchildren, Michael, Karissa and Lucca.
He lived his life on his terms until the very end.
