Barbara Ceil Levine

85, passed away at her home in Valley Village, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. From her birth in New York City, on August 6, 1931 to her death on Tuesday, she spread her love, faith, and generosity to everyone she met. Barbara graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School in 1949. On March 27, 1955, she married Jesse Levine. Together, they had three daughters. In 1965, the family moved from New York to California. Barbara began working for the Los Angeles Unified School District after being a homemaker for many years. She was also a volunteer at Sherman Oaks and Kaiser Permanente Hospitals. After her husband’s death in 1997, Barbara joined a bereavement support group and soon became a bereavement counselor at Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center. Barbara was a long standing member of Temple Beth Hillel, where she attended services every Friday night and was Bat Mitzvahed on June 16, 2000 at the age of 68. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Anne Demberg; brother, Max Demberg; and husband, Jesse Levine. She is survived by her three daughters, Anne Pickard, Robin (Terry) Tolman, and Leslie (Clark) Perry; and grandchildren, Morgan, Matthew, Rachel, and Jenna. Barbara will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 1 pm in the chapel of Groman Eden Mortuary. Services will be officiated by Rabbi Jim Kaufman, and will conclude graveside, in Eden Memorial Park.
