Alvin Stanley Cooperband, son of Paul and Adele Cooperband, passed away on March 2, 2026, at the age of 92, in Santa Monica, CA. Funeral services are being held at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles, CA, on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at noon.
Alvin was born and raised in Quincy, Massachusetts. He attended Thayer Academy and earned a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Harvard University. From there he moved to California and had a long career in research and development of computers starting in 1960. He also earned a master’s degree in Psychology from UCLA.
Alvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, foster father, and friend. He had an amazing mind, insatiable curiosity, love of learning, and passion for science, the arts, classical music, and opera. He was knowledgeable, creative, artistic, musical, innovative, inventive, and handy. He loved traveling and took his family on many adventures. He was also a foody with an adventuresome palette and was a talented chef.
Alvin touched many lives and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Esther, children Aaron, Paula, and Miriam, grandchildren Benjamin, Zoe, Matthew, Leo, Willa, and Fréah, and great-grandchild Margot.
