Obituaries

Allan Paul Jacoby, aeronautical engineer and resident of Oceanside, CA, passed away on November 21, 2019, one month shy of his 95th birthday. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 24, 1924, Allan was the son of Leo R. Jacoby, who served as an aerial photographer with the American Expeditionary Force in World War I, and of Edna Rose Richmond. Following in his father’s footsteps, Jacoby pursued photography as a lifelong hobby and also served his country, in the U.S. Navy, during World War II. Educated in the public schools of Kansas City, he graduated from its renowned Southwest High School, where he played on the golf team, beginning another lifelong pursuit in which he excelled, proud of rounds where he scored under 70. He also attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Allan also loved playing softball, and founder of the Palos Verdes Girls’ Softball League. He remained active in a variety of other sports for many years, and was fortunate to have enjoyed wonderful travels throughout the world. Enrolling in the University of Texas at Austin, he played football with the Texas Longhorns before leaving for military service. Returning after the war to graduate in 1949, he moved to Los Angeles to join the team of engineers that built the fighter jets used by the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and ultimately managed the development of the B-1 bomber. Jacoby was preceded in death three years ago by his wife of many years, Lois Friedman Solochek. He was the father (with his previous wife, Carol Kleinman) of three children, all of whom survive him: Linda Jacoby Stilin (Nick) of Higganum, CT, Kenneth L. Jacoby of Simi Valley, CA, and Pamela Jacoby Elkins (Steve), of Martinez, CA, by two grandchildren, Danielle Jacoby of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Brandon Jacoby of New York City, NY, and by two stepchildren, Darryl Solocheck of Madrid, Spain and Teri Solochek Drooks of West Hills, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Jacoby Boxer, of Kensington, CA, his niece, Claire Jacoby Boxer of Santa Clarita, CA, and two nephews, Lawrence R. Boxer (Samantha) of Corona, CA, and Brian D. Boxer (Mary Jane) of Sacramento, CA. Entombment took place on November 26, 2019 at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles, CA. One of the last thrills of his life came when he embarked on the Tour of Honor of veterans to Washington, D.C.
