Alan Lewis Schneider, January 24, 1939 – June 27, 2020
Our loving father and husband, Alan L. Schneider, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at 4:45 p.m. Alan was born on January 24, 1939, in New York City to parents Shirley and Harry Schneider. Some of his most cherished childhood memories included playing stickball in the street, watching his beloved New York Yankees from the rooftop of his apartment building in the Bronx and walking uphill, both ways, in the snow to get Chinese take-out with his father and brothers.
He attended the prestigious Bronx High School of Science, and later obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at NYU where he studied Aeronautical Engineering. Shortly after graduation, in 1962, Alan moved to Los Angeles to work for Rocketdyne International as an aerospace engineer. He worked on many noteworthy projects throughout the length of his 40+ year long career including the Apollo Spacecraft, the Space Shuttle and Boeing’s 727 aircraft. His diligence and attention to detail earned him the respected title of “Mr. Systems Performance” by his colleagues.
Alan was an avid bridge player and reader. He also enjoyed traveling, attending lectures, going to the movies, doing the daily crossword puzzle and hiking with friends. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Alan is survived by his wife, Helene, two daughters, Barbara (Douglas) and Pamela, stepson Marc (Tammy) and grandchildren: Garrett, Samuel, Grace, Joshua and Maxim.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Alzheimer’s Association or the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles (COVID-19 Relief)
