Community Service

As a nonprofit organization and a community service of Temple Israel of Hollywood, Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary reaches out to serve the greater Los Angeles Jewish Community in many ways, including:

  • Grants to community organizations providing social services for seniors, children, veterans, families and the hungry; programs for vocational and job search support and financial assistance; local museums, hospitals, schools, universities and libraries; and programs to enhance Jewish life in Los Angeles.
  • Special events, including the annual Kever Avot v’Imahot Service to honor the memory of family members between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and unique Mother’s Day and Father’s Day remembrance events.
  • Educational programs about Jewish rituals of death and mourning for rabbinical students, religious school students and adults.
  • The Hillside Chesed Project to collect food for the JFS{SOVA Community Food and Resource Program, toys and books for the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles’s annual Toy and Book Drive, eyeglasses for the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, and hearing aids for the Towers Audiology Center.
  • A community Genizah, a burial site for retired Torah scrolls and worn prayer books.
  • Complimentary Jewish Calendars, yahrzeit candles, 20-year yahrzeit calendars and books about Jewish mourning traditions, grieving and other related subjects.
