Prestigious L.A. Cemetery Expands Grounds to Meet the Needs of Generations to Come

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 20, 2008) – Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, the most prestigious Jewish cemetery and mortuary in Southern California, announces the addition of a new development.

“For more than 60 years, Hillside has been providing families with places of serene beauty for those who are now gone,” says Mark A. Friedman, Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary’s CEO. “This new addition will provide even more generations with the opportunity to enjoy a spiritually satisfying connection with their families at Hillside.”

The lush landscapes and graceful water designs of Garden of Solomon provide a stunning backdrop to the new development. Jerusalem stone will be used throughout the area and surround the winding brook and pond. The secluded, naturally enclosed grounds of Garden of Solomon represent Hillside’s decades-long commitment to providing property options for families with varied needs:

Pavilions: Two spectacular waterfront view open-air pavilions will each have their own beautiful cascading waterfall which gently flows into the main pond. The family name may be carved in stone as each pavilion is designed to accommodate up to 12 interments. The elegant design makes this a majestic setting and a peaceful resting place.

Family Estates: As iron gates welcome visitors to these exquisite estate properties, beautiful Jerusalem stone pillars, walls, benches and stunning foliage provide the family with an elegantly landscaped estate. The family name may be carved in stone with four stone pillow blocks where individual family members may have their names engraved. Some estates accommodate up to four interments, while others have an eight-person capacity.

Double Ground Spaces: Double ground spaces are spread throughout the area. Some are near water while some are placed adjacent to designed to hold cremated remains.

The new development is expected to be completed by summer 2009. For more information on Garden of Solomon, please visit www.HillsideMemorial.org or call 800-576-1994.

Prestigious L.A. Cemetery Supports Funerary Arts Genre at FUNERIA’s Ashes to Art | Scattered Event

LOS ANGELES/GRATON, Calif. (Aug. 29, 2008) – Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, the most prestigious Jewish
cemetery and mortuary in Southern California, announced its premier sponsorship of the Ashes to Art® | scattered 4th
international exhibition of funerary art presented by FUNERIA®. The sponsorship underscores Hillside’s commitment to
supporting art- and design-conscious families, as well as the funerary arts genre – a commitment which resonates with the
mission of the Ashes to Art exhibition, scheduled to take place in Sonoma County Sept. 27 through Nov. 30.

“Increasingly, we’re seeing individuals and families making end of life plans who want to be mindful of land use,
the shrinking resources of our planet and their carbon footprint, and cremation is an option that not only makes sense for
them but provides opportunity for personal expression,” said Mark A. Friedman, Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary’s
CEO. “At Hillside, we think it’s increasingly important to support the artistic creation of cremation urns that embody
meaningful expression and provide comfort to families – and FUNERIA’s Ashes to Art exhibition is the perfect venue for
this.”

Ashes to Art | scattered is a juried competition and exhibition that invites artists working in all sculptural media
to create innovative functional funerary artworks, including biodegradable containers and vessels, that help family and
friends fulfill loved ones’ requests to scatter ashes, and new rituals that expand on early and modern attitudes toward life
and the afterlife. The artists work in the broadest range of materials, including clay, metal, glass, fiber, wood, stone and
mixed media to create keepsakes and containers for both cremated remains and mementos of a well-lived life. Jurors
select the most original and finely crafted artworks for cash awards and special recognition.

“More so now than at any other time in history, people around the world are choosing cremation over traditional
burial, even among those raised in a religious practice where cremation has not been the norm” explained Maureen
Lomasney, president and founder of FUNERIA, LLC. “Ashes to Art exhibitions offer a remarkably diverse range of
objects to contain the ashes of loved ones, thanks to artists who are redefining the role and aesthetics of what cremation
urns can achieve in honoring a unique life. We’re delighted to have Hillside Memorial Park & Mortuary as the premier
sponsor of the exhibition – a fitting partnership between a precedent-setting contemporary art exhibition and a mortuary
that has long been known for providing thoughtful options for its community.”

The Ashes to Art | scattered 4th international exhibition of funerary art presented by FUNERIA and sponsored by
Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary will run Sept. 27 through Nov. 30 at Art Honors Life – The Gallery at FUNERIA in
Graton, Sonoma County. In the Southern California area, FUNERIA’s exclusive portfolio of urns, vessels and reliquaries
are available through Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary. To learn more, please visit HillsideMemorial.org and
Groundbreaking Model Show Aims to Inspire Local Jewish History Programs in Other Communities

LOS ANGELES – Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, the most prestigious Jewish cemetery and mortuary in Southern California, announced its partnership with “The History of Jewish LA,” a television program dedicated to examining local Jewish life and culture produced by award-winning Blazer Media Group. The partnership will include Hillside’s sponsorship of 26 episodes airing Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. on channel 18. The program will spotlight various Los Angeles personalities, and feature segments with historians and profiles of organizations that have played an integral part in shaping the community’s Jewish history.

“Hillside has been honored to play a significant role in the local Jewish community since 1942 and has always dedicated itself to serving the community,” said Mark A. Friedman, Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary’s CEO. “Many of Hillside’s distinguished residents were pioneers within the Jewish community, and working with ‘The History of Jewish LA’ allows us to make a meaningful connection with viewers to showcase that rich history.”

Produced by the same minds behind “Jewish Life with Phil Blazer,” the longest-running television program in the Los Angeles market, the show will serve as a model program designed to inspire other Jewish communities throughout the United States and Canada to start their own local programming. Through Hillside’s support, “The History of Jewish LA” will share the lesser-known details of Jewish history within the region and serve as an educational platform where stories can be shared and explored.

“Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary contains the memorials of the earliest leaders who helped build the Jewish community in Los Angeles. It is an important and recognizable landmark. With Hillside’s support, we are able to educate our viewers and, hopefully, translate that into community pride,” said Phil Blazer, host of “The History of Jewish L.A.” and founder of Blazer Media Group. “We’re grateful that Hillside is making it possible for us to share these important stories about our past and how they continue to shape our lives today.”

According to Blazer, the first charity founded in Los Angeles was the Hebrew Benevolent Society (now Jewish Family Services), which was formed in 1854 and is now more than 150 years old. Yet, Blazer says, the Jewish community is largely unaware of the magnitude of its own compassion. He notes that the Jewish population represents 10 percent of the Los Angeles community, yet contributes 70 percent of the region’s charitable giving – with 90 percent going to non-Jewish organizations. Blazer hopes to draw attention to the generosity of the community, and enhance the charitable
giving toward Jewish education programs and Israel-related issues – emphasizing that non-Jewish organizations should also remain a priority.

“The History of Jewish L.A.,” presented by Blazer Media Group in partnership with Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, will air Sundays through February 1, 2009. For more information, please visit www.HillsideMemorial.org or www.BlazerMediaGroup.com.
