Typically, A Jewish funeral occurs as soon as possible.  For the most observant, the funeral may take place the same day, circumstances permitting. For others, the funeral usually takes place within a few days of death. Funerals are scheduled to be compatible with the availability of family, clergy and the mortuary and cemetery.

Following are days a Jewish funeral does not take place and when Hillside is closed for services and visitations. Our 8-year Jewish calendar will help you identify when Jewish holidays occur.
  • Shabbat - Starts at sunset on Friday night and ends an hour after sundown on Saturday night.
  • Rosh Hashanah
  • Yom Kippur
  • Sukkot
  • Shemini Atzeret
  • Pesach (Passover)—first and last days
  • Shavuot

Hillside is open to the public for visitation but does not perform burials on the following dates:

New Year’s Day
Memorial Day
July 4th
Labor Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
