Mortuary Data Processing/Accounting Clerk

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is currently seeking a full-time Mortuary Data Processing/Accounting Clerk to join our team in Los Angeles, California. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Mortuary Data Processing

  • Process all contracts and transactions in a customized Windows based program.
  • Review contract details and consult with family counselors to resolve questions and issues.
  • Process appropriate supporting documentation for refunds.
  • Apply and post cash receipts.
  • Check for and obtain appropriate management approval signatures.
  • Maintain customer information.
  • Filing and retention of processed contracts.
  • Support A/R Administrator with Billing/Invoicing.Accounting 
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including research and resolution of balances.
  • Prepares and maintains fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
  • Conducts physical inventory of Caskets/Urns/Vaults/Benches per supervisor’s request.
  • Performs tasks related to month end close.
  • Collaborates with other staff members on monthly GL review.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Preparation and posting of month end journal entries.
  • Prepares various schedules and compiles information for Hillside’s annual financial audit.
  • Prepare ad hoc reconciliations and analyses as requested.Additional Duties
  • Assist Cemetery Data Processing Clerk with document processing.
  • Back-up Cemetery Data Processing Clerk on cemetery contract processing when needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Controller.The ideal candidate will possess:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, though a bachelor’s degree (attained or in process) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant accounting experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant data processing experience.
  • General accounting experience, in particular GL reconciliation and JE preparation.
  • Intermediate computer skills, highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to type 45wpm.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, reasoning and problem solving ability.
  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong ability to evaluate and appropriately address privacy and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions, plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure timely completion of all projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to act with a high degree of initiative.

The hours of this position are 8:00 am -5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

 


Field Crew Associate

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is currently seeking a highly motivated Field Crew Associate to join the Hillside team in Los Angeles, California. Responsibilities include but are not limited to set-up and closing of graves and mausoleum wall sites. Assisting visitors in the park with the trimming and cleaning of memorial markers along with memorial marker installation. Assist rabbis and funeral directors during funeral services. Additional responsibilities include washing down sidewalks and wall mausoleums, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning of flower stations and picking up debris from various areas of the park, property maintenance, landscaping maintenance, grounds work and assisting with other maintenance tasks when needed. Other duties may include picking up parts and materials as needed from outside vendors and interacting with families and visitors of Hillside.

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate with empathy and sincerity.
  • Backhoe and tractor operation experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with hand-held power tools, light equipment and two-way radios preferred.
  • A minimum of one year relevant experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean DMV record.
  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Positive, professional attitude and demeanor.
  • Must pass a basic physical and drug test post-offer.
  • Must pass a lifting test of 100 lbs. and be able to lift, push and pull 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time and access all areas of the park.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend and stand on scaffolding or climb ladders up to 25 feet.

Funeral Director

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is currently seeking a Funeral Director to join their team in Los Angeles, California. The Funeral Director conducts multiple funeral and memorial services from set-up to completion. This includes setting up flowers, chapels, programs, music selections, caskets and waiting on family members, all to make services meaningful while providing a positive customer service experience. The Funeral Director also handles financial payments for balances due in addition to working closely with mortuary secretaries, chapel attendants, assistant funeral directors and counselors. A high level of customer service interaction is necessary with families, guests and rabbis. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to keeping the mortuary stocked with materials as well as light housekeeping which includes, vacuuming, emptying trash cans, dusting and other tasks required to maintain a neat and orderly facility. A funeral director’s license or the ability to obtain a funeral director’s license is required.

This position must be able to work Sunday through Friday from 8:00-4:30. This position is off Thursdays and Saturdays with a rotating Friday and Saturday off once per month.
