Accounts Payable/Accounts Payable Clerk (Full-time)

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is currently seeking a full-time Accounts Payable Clerk to join our team in Los Angeles, California to perform assigned accounting, accounts payable tasks and related clerical support functions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Track all incoming Payables correspondence received at Hillside (including electronically) and routes to appropriate parties and request approvals per company policy.
  • Verifies invoice legitimacy against supporting documentation such as purchase orders, receivers and contracts.
  • Codes invoices to appropriate GL account and enters in MAS90 AP module.
  • Prepares vendor credit applications as needed and sets up vendors in MAS90.
  • Maintain vendor contract and agreement copies for invoice payment backup, annual audit, etc.
  • Post batches of invoices for preparation of payment.
  • Responsible for check runs including check printing, coordinating signatures, and mailing of checks.
  • Maintains check register, check release log, “voided checks” log and credit card log.
  • Provides invoice copies to accounting staff for GL reconciling purposes.
  • Maintains accounts payable filing and storage.
  • Prepares month-end and annual payable accruals.
  • Sends out W-9 forms requesting taxpayer ID and certification.
  • Reports independent contractor data to California EDD.
  • Responsible for annual filing of 1099s including compiling data and consolidated 1096 report for Hillside Memorial Park and Temple Israel of Hollywood.
  • Maintains waste management records for annual audit by CA Department of Health.
  • Research, track and resolve vendor problems and discrepancies.
  • Creates and sends vendors debit and credit correspondence when applicable.
  • Reconciles monthly vendor statements.
  • Due to the nature of this position, the essential functions cannot be performed at home.

 

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of computer-based accounting system.
  • Familiarity with basic bookkeeping procedures.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant Accounts Payable experience.
  • Intermediate computer skills, highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to type 45wpm.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, reasoning and problem solving ability.
  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong ability to evaluate and appropriately address privacy and confidentiality.

Field Crew Associate

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is currently seeking a highly motivated Field Crew Associate to join the Hillside team in Los Angeles, California. Responsibilities include but are not limited to set-up and closing of graves and mausoleum wall sites. Assisting visitors in the park with the trimming and cleaning of memorial markers along with memorial marker installation. Assist rabbis and funeral directors during funeral services. Additional responsibilities include washing down sidewalks and wall mausoleums, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning of flower stations and picking up debris from various areas of the park, property maintenance, landscaping maintenance, grounds work and assisting with other maintenance tasks when needed. Other duties may include picking up parts and materials as needed from outside vendors and interacting with families and visitors of Hillside.

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate with empathy and sincerity.
  • Backhoe and tractor operation experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with hand-held power tools, light equipment and two-way radios preferred.
  • A minimum of one year relevant experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean DMV record.
  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Positive, professional attitude and demeanor.
  • Must pass a basic physical and drug test post-offer.

Embalmer/Funeral Director

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary is currently seeking a licensed Embalmer/ Funeral Director to work with our dedicated staff to serve the families who choose Hillside. This position is responsible for successfully providing a full range of embalming, restorative and reconstruction processes to prepare the deceased for funeral services. This position will also be responsible for assisting and leading chapel and graveside services.

The ideal candidate must possess a valid California Embalmer’s License though a funeral director’s license in combination with an embalmer’s license is preferred. The ideal candidate must be skilled at dressing and cosmetizing decedents that are embalmed, in addition to those that are not embalmed. The ideal candidate must be skilled at recreating multiple hairstyles and be willing to learn Jewish funeral customs and traditions. This position also works closely with vendors and maintains a clean, neat and orderly preparation, Tahara and storage area. This role also works closely with other Hillside staff and external resources such as rabbis and others involved with the funeral service. A strong comfort level with grieving families is a must. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to telephone coverage, word-processing and other duties as assigned.

  • The ideal candidate must possess an active California embalmer’s license, though an active funeral director’s license in combination with an active embalmer’s license is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a licensed embalmer, with a focus on hair and makeup, is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong ability to evaluate and appropriately address privacy and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks.
